FAQs

GeneralQ: What’s the difference between a news release, a media release, a press release and an article or editorial?

A: There’s no real difference between a news release, a media release and a press release – we use all three terms throughout www.writerelease.com.au to help you find us on the internet. Technically, though, they’re not called articles or editorial until they are published by the media.

Q: How do I get a media release written?

A: Just fill in our five-minute questionnaire and we'll write the press release for you from go to whoa. If you're really stuck and are right out of ideas, take a look at our PR tips or read through some of WriteRelease's latest news releases for inspiration.

Q: Who owns the copyright on any material written for me by WriteRelease?

A: According to the law, we do, but we are happy to sign over copyright to you at any time at no extra cost.

Q. Why should I register with WriteRelease?

A: Everything we write or send for you will be stored in your WriteRelease MediaKit free of charge for six months, so you can access it online fast. Of course, we'll also store all your account details here so you won't need to keep retyping them every time you need to get a release out to the media.

Q. Why can't I see WriteRelease's information pages anymore?

A: Once you've logged in, www.writerelease.com.au gives you instant access to the "action" pages to save you time. If you'd like another look at the information pages, simply log out.

Media release writing

Q: Will I be interviewed about my media release?

A: No. WriteRelease is so cost-effective because we can write efficiently using the answers customers give to our questions and the extra background materials they provide. Please do your best to fill out the questionnaire completely. If you would like to include a quote in your media release, please supply text and a name for us to use.

Q: How long will it take to write my press release?

A: Provided you supply enough information, you’ll have a draft that’s close to perfect in three to five working days. If you need it faster, our Express Release service costs just an extra $150 + GST and we guarantee to write the first draft of your media release in 48 hours (on working days).

Q: How long will the published article be?

A: The standard media release is between 200 and 300 words but publishers are often forced to reduce the length of submitted stories to fit them in and may edit your piece.

News release distributionQ: What can I upload for distribution to the media?

A: Unlike most media release distribution services, WriteRelease encourages you to include a picture with your press release at no extra cost. The image needs to be in JPEG format and no greater than 1MB in size. If you would like print media (like magazines and newspapers) to publish your image, make sure it is at least 300dpi resolution. Do not include company logos or brochures as they are generally frowned upon by editors.

You can upload the press release itself as either a Word document or PDF that is less than 100Kb in size. Write Release reserves the right to refuse distribution of inappropriate material (such as adult literature).

Q: What are the “media categories” that WriteRelease sends press releases to?

WriteRelease has grouped the business-to-business publications on our media contact list into 73 specialist categories, beginning with ‘Advertising & Media’ and finishing with ‘Viticulture’. If, for example, you select the ‘Health & Safety’ category, your media release will be circulated to all the journalists that have an interest in health and safety.

Grouping the journalists in this way allows you to target journalists with highly relevant media releases while making sure you’ve got the news out to all the right publications.

Q: Who will see my press release?

A: Journalists in the media categories you’ve selected will receive the press release but they will not be put on public display unless you ask us to include it on writerelease.com.au. This means you can alert the media ahead of new product launches and other sensitive events without exposing the information to competitors.

You can choose to make only one media release at a time visible to journalists or allow them to see all your releases. You will also be issued with a password that allows you to see your entire history of stories at any time.

Q: Where will my media release be published?

A: The WriteRelease database of business-to-business and trade media contacts is comprehensive but we cannot guarantee which media will publish your press release. WriteRelease recommends you monitor the media for the appearance of publicity regarding your company by subscribing to a service such as www.googlealert.com and by reviewing industry journals.

Q: When will my press release be circulated?

A: To avoid overloading editors, WriteRelease sends media releases in two batches each working day: one at 9am and one at 4pm. Press releases uploaded for immediate circulation at least an hour before each of these times will be sent. Of course, you can specify when your media release will be sent and if you've asked for it to be held, we will send it at the next 9am or 4pm time slot.

PaymentQ. Why do I need to pay for my media release as soon as I place my "Write" order?

A: As soon as the first draft is ready, WriteRelease customers can take the text and use it however and wherever they wish. We just need to be sure that everyone plays fair.

Q: Can I set up an account with Write Release?

A: WriteRelease extends 14 day terms in special cases. Please email us via the form on the Contact Us page.

Who and where we areQ. Just who is WriteRelease?
