Sydney Materials Handling grows 25%

2008-09-04

Sydney Materials Handling will be 25 per cent larger than last year’s inaugural event when it returns to the Sydney Showground from October 28 to 30.

Dedicated to load, move and shift solutions, Sydney Materials Handling is targeted squarely at logistics, warehousing and production professionals and runs alongside The Safety Show Sydney. The two events will host more than 350 materials handling and occupational health and safety specialists across three and a half acres.

While Sydney Materials Handling visitors can expect plenty of core logistics equipment like forklifts from big brand names including Clark Equipment, NTP and Toyota, the 2008 show will extend right through to keyless security technology and radio frequency identification (RFID).

The feature areas will be supply chain management, warehouse management and transport, automated systems, automatic identification, conveying equipment and accessories, industrial sweepers, dust and fume control equipment, lifting equipment, overhead handling, packaging machinery and storage.

In a first, Manufacturers’ Monthly will host daily tours guiding visitors through the heart of Sydney Materials Handling and The Safety Show Sydney to the newest factory and warehouse safety solutions.

Among the materials handling products to be launched during the tours will be the Russell Williams Warehouse@Work interactive e-learning tool. Warehouse@Work demonstrates safe manual handling approaches to tasks like picking, sorting, packing, transport and loading in a real warehouse.

Warehouse of Mats will release a new range of anti-fatigue, oil resistant matting, while Warehousing Equipment shows off its 500 kg capacity battery-driven platform trolley, the Powered Pushmate.

The hands-on emphasis of Sydney Materials Handling carries through to full demonstration stage and safety theatre programs, which will let visitors see products from a diverse range of exhibitors in action.

Complementing the load, shift and move tools on show is the expertise of principal sponsor, WorkCover NSW. Its free workshops will help businesses improve workplace safety, meet workers compensation obligations and manage a situation where a worker is injured.

WorkCover NSW is also principal sponsor of The Safety Conference, which is held concurrently with the two trade shows. The conference program will explore the themes of Challenging Safety Energies; Training & Development: Ready, Willing and Able; Corporate Governance & Business Sustainability; Change Management; Critical Incident Management, Preparation, Recovery & Investigation; Practical Risk Management Solutions; and The Human Face of Safety.

A highlight of the Conference will be the WorkCover NSW Hypothetical, which engages unions, employer groups and WorkCover in dynamic debate as they confront hypothetical safety challenges.

Sydney Materials Handling and the co-located Safety Show Sydney will run in association with Safe Work Australia Week from October 28 to 30 at the Sydney Showground.
